Comparing Google Allo and other Apps

With the recent introduction of Google Allo into the scene, there is an increase in the number of messaging apps all over the world. Google Allo has come to join other messaging apps like Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, Telegram, WeChat, Google Hangouts amongst others. Among all these listed apps however, it is safe to say that Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger have the most users. Will Google Allo be able to meet up with its predecessors?

Comparing Google Allo with other messaging apps, it is pertinent to review what Allo can do compared to other apps. Using Google Allo is very easy. It only requires a mobile number based login and does not need an e-mail link. It also has a video-calling feature. So, how does Allo differ from other Apps? Is it better? Let’s explore.

Google Allo

Google stated that Allo can do more than regular messaging apps. Because it has Google Assistant, it has the power to search. This, uers can use even in the middle of a chat. Users can look up restaurants close to them, check movie schedules at the cinemas and play games with the Assistant. Not forgetting that the app also gives auto-suggestions for replies. It enables users of Android to draw on photos, offers supports for stickers, incognito chat mode for end-to-end encrrytion and after sometime, chats are no longer seen. Users can select an expiry date for their messages, send messages for free to those who do not have the Allo app and they get the replies from those messages right on the app.
The problem with this app however, is that Google stores all your chats with Google assistants on their servers so even if your messages are deleted, they are not gone forever hence, there is no total privacy. Also, file sharing is not supported on this app.

WhatsApp on its own has an end-to-end encryption which gives some degree of privacy to your chats. Once you delete a message, it is gone, totally. It supports voice calling and file sharing. There are also attempts to include stickers, scribbling on photos, etc, soon. Whatsapp recently announced that it will start sharing information with facebook. However, a user can opt out of this feature but users’ phone numbers, device used etc will be shared on facebook. Perhaps this is not good as there are privacy concerns.

Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger has about a billion users and supports voice and voice-calling feature. A user can see all his/her facebook friends in the contact list. They can also sync their mobile numbers with the app. They have the discretion to either allow or disallow requests from those who are not on their contact list. They can also send GIFs, scribble on photos before sending them. Facebook Messenger however, does not support end-to-end encryption by default. It has a separate conversation mode and messages get deleted after sometime.

Telegram supports end-to-end encryption but only in the secret chat mode. Users of Telegram are able to share heavy files (up to 1GB) and formats like MP3, MP4, etc. They can also add up over 5000 members in a superGroup.

All these platforms are great in their own unique ways but are there any difference? Or are we just accumulating messengers after messengers just for the sake of it? Will Google Allo rise to defeat the other Messaging Apps? This remains to be seen.

Google Allo Features: Just another Messenger?

No doubt, all the platforms are great in their unique way. The differences are just little. However, Whatsapp is still the best for now. Let’s just wait and watch how Google Allo will either rise to defeat the other Messaging App or be defeated.

T he Google Allo is such a great app. As at last night.. They had over 50,000 downloads.. I give the app a 5 star..
You can even send a message without even typing anything at all,do video calling, etc.. And most of all,use Google assistant right on the app!! what cool features.. But one thing is Google stores our chats on their database to enhance the autoreply capability(to reply by giving suggestions even without typing),even if we delete a message .. it still stores on their database.. I love the fact that they offer end to end encryption so nobody can just hack into your chats and vies what you are chatting with others. That’s why I might prefer whatsapp over allo. it doesn’t store your chat on the database even after deleting.. I ala use messenger. For Facebook chat as well as well as text messages.. It makes chatting easier due to the pop up.. As for telegram.. I don’t use it.. If not for space and time constraints.. I can’t type much am sorry

I think Google Allo will be great too just like other Apps. I’m yet to download it and see it for myself.
